Our Little Guinea Pig …

We do SO MUCH by trial and error with Type 1 Diabetesā€¦

Switching to shots and with T1D beingĀ stupidĀ means that Eden’s blood sugar levels have been hovering in the 200-300’s for 2 days now šŸ˜¦

For the newbies –

Eden’s “normal” blood sugar range is 80-180 with her perfect target being 110-120 ..

We walk this tightrope walk and try extremely hard to stay within this range every.single.day.

A task that sometimes feels like an impossibility.

too low = dangerous

too high = dangerous

It usually takes a few days for any changes we make to her insulin regime to take effect – why? I have absolutely NO IDEA.. giving too much insulin at any time has immediate consequences – as does giving too little …

You would think changing from 1 type of insulin to 2 would have an immediate effect too – well I guess in theory it has – it has made her blood sugar levels RISE..

That means extra shots in the middle of the night – less sleep and grumpy moods

I increased her long acting insulin dosage this morning – not sure if it was the right thing to do or not – but I did it anyway.. I hate having her blood sugar levels sitting in the 200’s – it isn’t healthy for her body or my sanity šŸ˜‰

Yup – here we go using Eden as a human guinea pig again..

I hate playing guessing games with insulin – a medication that keeps Eden alive but can just as easily kill her.
