Some of the most common symptoms of Type 1 Diabetes include the following:
- Extreme Thirst
- Sudden Weight Loss
- Frequent Urination (or sudden bedwetting in little ones)
- Increased Appetite
- Fruity odor /sweet smelling breath
- Drowsiness and lethargy
- Vomiting
These symptoms may come on suddenly or over a period of time. It is imperative if someone you know is exhibiting a combination of these symptoms to be immediately seen by a medical professional. As the symptoms are similar to the flu MANY people are misdiagnosed and sent home. Listen to your instincts – if you are in doubt – ASK FOR A BLOOD TEST. A simple blood test could be a life saver.
See the JDRF website for more information and symptoms.
